Dirty Little Secrets You Should Know

Dirty Little Secrets Of
The Carpet Cleaning Business
No one wants to serve as somebody else’s personal ATM. Although, that is how most carpet cleaners see you.  They have a lot of tricks to get their greedy little mitts on your cash.  Allow us to expose some of these underhanded techniques that the industry would rather keep quiet and demonstrate how we do things VERY differently!

1. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "DEEP CLEANING"

Deep cleaning is a myth. Some will even call this a "Restoration cleaning".  All that is required to "deep clean" carpet is a machine with a powered, rotating cleaning head. These machines actually make the job easier and faster. Other cleaners out there will tell you that it is a rare, super expensive, and high tech piece of equipment. In reality, these machines are commonly used by high quality carpet cleaners everywhere and everyone knows about their phenomenal cleaning power.  For open areas, they provide superior cleaning results versus old fashioned cleaning wands, and we love to use them as part of the premium cleaning service we provide every single day.

Other companies will tell you they have to charge extra to deep clean, but weren't you expecting them to do that in the first place?  Why are they dropping that on you now, once they get into your home?  And what were they planning on doing, "lightly cleaning" your carpet?  We believe every single carpet cleaning service should be cleaned deeply and professionally.  Otherwise, why bother?  The whole thing is a ridiculous cash grab.

We clean every carpet the same way: deeply, yet gently. If your carpets are heavily soiled, we may charge a nominal fee for the extra time required to properly clean the area, but we would never try to sell you on this "deep cleaning" mumbo jumbo.
2. BEWARE OF THOSE SELLING GENERAL DEODORIZING AND PROTECTOR AT HIGH PRICES

For general deodorizing of carpet all a carpet cleaner needs to do is add a few ounces of fragrance to their cleaning solution. It only costs them a few dollars per gallon, but customers typically will get charged $20 or more per room. Sometimes these cleaners don’t use professional products. They head out to Home Depot and buy a $10 gallon of Odoban, which will do nothing and it also smells terrible . This is just wrong!

It’s even easier to rip customers off with charging very high prices for carpet protector.  Not to mention that the most unscrupulous cleaners can also thin it out with more water, apply it too lightly, or what is even worse is that a technician could easily say he applied protector when in fact he just sprayed down water or did nothing at all.

Babysoft will include general deodorizing on every job for FREE!   If severe odors need to be fixed, we do charge a little extra for that, but we’ll always clear it with you first.  We use professional deodorizing solutions, and only charge $10 per room if we need to apply an extra dose of deodorizer.

We even include encapsulant protector for FREE on every job (to help stop spots from wicking up)! If you’d like to pay a little extra for our Premium 3M Scotchgard Protector, we have that too (and we charge one of the lowest rates in Tampa - only $20 per room)!  We only use original 3M Sctchgard Carpet Protector, not off-name brands.  Also, Premium 3M Scotchgard Proterctor will automatically sign you up for our 6 Month Spot and Spill Warranty).  This is why we MUST use 3M Scotchgard!  We have to mix it properly & apply it per 3M's specifications for it to work, and for us to have the confidence to provide you with this one of a kind warranty!
3. SINCE CUSTOMER'S DON'T REALLY UNDERSTAND HOW WELL THE MOISTURE IN CARPET CAN REALLY BE EXTRACTED (SUCKED OUT), MOST CLEANERS THINK THEY CAN JUST SKIP THE STEP

This is where a lot of cleaners out there can hide the real quality of their work, and where most homeowners can't really see what is going on (this is a real "deep hidden secret" of the industry). Most cleaners out there think that since they are making the surface of your carpet look good, that you will just somehow understand and deal with the fact that you will have wet soaking carpet for 24 hours (or more). Cleaners who don't extract (i.e. suck out) the water out properly will not only be leaving the carpets very wet, but they'll also be leaving behind gallons and gallons of black dirty water. Be very careful of cleaners that charge very low rates, since the only way they can charge low is to get as many jobs as possible done through the day. This means that, in addition to other short-cuts, they will not take the extra time required to properly extract the water out of the carpet.  In addition, most are using low cost, low performance equipment with low suction, which further compounds the problem.

The first step that we use to make sure we properly extract the water from your carpet is to use our Deep Cleaning Rotary Power Head Machine (see secret #1 above). Cleaners out there that are strictly using cleaning wands for the open and heavily soiled areas, are not going to be able to pull up the majority of the dirty water successfully. Secondly, after we do our steam cleaning pass over the carpet, we always go back with our machine and do a second or even a third "vacuum only" pass to pick up as much water as possible. Does it take us twice as long to clean the same piece of carpet? Yes! Do we charge twice as much as the other guys? Not even close! Is it really that important to do this?
Absolutely!

Proper extraction of water is important for two main reasons. The first is that it helps get the carpets dryer faster, so you can get back to your daily routine as quickly as possible. We also set-up our quick dry fans after we are done to help carpets get dry even faster. Secondly, you will know that all of that dirty black water is out of your carpets. I mean, that was the main reason you called a cleaner out to your house in the first place, to get the dirt out!
4. THE VAST MAJORITY OF PROFESSIONAL CARPET CLEANERS DO NOT PROPERLY CLEAN OR MAINTAIN THEIR EQUIPMENT ON A DAILY BASIS

There is no doubt that cleaning requires removing a lot of soiling and debris from your home.  Before we even step foot into your home, we make sure that we follow a strict procedure to clean and sanitize our equipment with water and bleach every single day.  You would not sit to eat at a restaurant with filthy silverware. So, please do not use a carpet cleaner who won’t do you the dignity of cleaning their tools and equipment every day!

Also, professional carpet cleaning machines have many filters that also need to be cleaned out in order for the equipment to run properly.  Remember when we talked about doing extra vacuum passes in secret #3 above?  Well, no matter how many vacuum passes you do, if the vacuum filter in the machine is clogged because it hasn't been cleaned out, it will never be able to pull all of that moisture out of your carpet.  These filters do not clean themselves, and many cleaners will leave them for weeks without cleaning them because it's a dirty and smelly job to clean them out.  The problem is that this can create serious performance issues that you are not even aware of.  We believe it is a betrayal of your trust.  We at Babysoft make sure to include all of the proper daily maintenance on our equipment.  This includes cleaning all of our tools for cleanliness and our equipment to provide optimal performance.
5. UNUSED CLEANING SOLUTIONS MUST BE MIXED FRESH DAILY OR THEY WILL GO BAD OVERNIGHT

The professional cleaning solutions we use are made on the spot, at your home, as we need them.  The enzymes and oxidizing agents that can be found in many cleaning pretreatments will be at their most effective within a few hours of being prepared.  At the end of the day we throw out anything that is left over.  Many cleaners will still use the cleaning solutions from the previous day (or even days).  Unfortunately, the customer unknowingly gets a cleaning that is at half strength.  Don't get short-changed by these cleaners that try to save a measly buck by trying to reuse old cleaning solutions.
